Sole F83 Treadmill (2011 Model)

Amazon.com

With a larger motor and additional torque than the F80, the Sole F83 treadmill is an ideal machine for serious runners. All Sole treadmills are outfitted with powder-coated, all-steel welded frames and heavy-duty, stable inclines. Sole took the F83 to the next level, however, by using an industrial-quality 3.25-horsepower continuous-duty motor and an all-steel zinc-coated balanced flywheel, creating a secure, quiet, vibration-free running/walking surface. The flywheel is also much heavier than most other brands, giving runners the fluid motion they're accustomed to at the gym, or on treadmills costing thousands of dollars more. To accommodate runners with balky joints, Sole added its low-impact, whisper-quiet Cushion Flex deck. The Cushion Flex system greatly reduces the impact to your feet, ankles, knees, hips, and spine, making it comfortable for frequent runners or for users with running- and walking-related injuries. In a recent study, researchers concluded that the Cushion Flex deck reduced impact up to 40 percent as compared to running on asphalt.

The F83's console includes a vibrant 9-inch LCD display and an integrated sound system.
The F83 makes it easy to track your workout progress via the vibrant 9-inch LCD display, which includes windows for speed, incline, time, distance traveled, calories, pulse, and pace. The console also sports a 1/4-mile track and a peak-and-valley graph for different programs, along with an integrated sound system for listening to your iPod or MP3 player (the system includes built-in speakers and a sound cord that plugs into your player's headphone jack). Perhaps the handiest feature is the integrated message board, which offers scrolling messages that walk you through the treadmill's features or the workout itself. The message board will also recap your entire routine after you're finished, so you can see your progress from workout to workout.

The F83 comes complete with two heart-rate-controlled workout options, so you can customize the workout specifically to your needs. Throughout your HR workout, the treadmill will display a heart rate zone graph on the console while adjusting the incline to keep you in your target zone (the treadmill includes a wireless chest strap that touts a 99.9 percent accuracy rating). The remainder of the time, you can challenge yourself with the six automatic programs or two customizable programs.

And to reduce space, the F83 boasts an Easy Assist folding deck design. This unique feature allows you to release the deck, step back, and watch the deck unfold itself. When you're done with your workout, simply fold it back up and store it out of the way. Other features include cooling fans, armrest incline and speed controls, a wide commercial-sized belt, and a low-profile running hood.

The treadmill's Easy Assist folding deck helps save space in crowded homes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great home treadmill, January 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)

Received this a few days ago. I was impressed that Amazon was able to get this to me in two days. First off, I am a serious runner. Road races whenever I can and have done 4 marathons. I have also done a lot of running on treadmills at gyms and a multitude of hotels. I wanted a home mill because I am starting to lose my desire to run outside on those cold wintry days. I did a lot of research and had narrowed down to a few but the warranty along with the price and positive reviews made me select the f83. I considered the f85 but the better motor and slightly wider deck on it, did not move me to spend the additional dollars. It appears that these were the only differences. I looked at the smooth models but after running on one that my sister recently purchased I was not all that impressed. I also considered the lower end precors (9.23, 9.27) but even though I love the precors, I could not bring myself to spend the extra money on it when I felt the sole would suffice. However if money... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great treadmill, February 18, 2011

We have had the treadmill about 3 weeks now. Both my husband and I use it, mainly on weekends. It is very sturdy, works well, and we are very happy with it. Speed and incline controls all work well and are easy to use since you can access them both on the main panel and on the handles. I would have given the treadmill 5 stars except that it is tricky to put together -- it took my husband and son the better part of an afternoon to get it together. It definitely requires two people to assemble. If you are not handy or have no experience assembling equipment or don't have help, then it would be worth the extra money to pay for assembly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Choice for the Home Gym, May 6, 2011

We've owned this treadmill since Christmas and have had a great experience with it so far. Other reviewers' comments about the platform being heavy and sturdy, the tread being stable, and the motor being reliable have all proven true for us. We have two users - my husband (6'0") and myself (5'2") and the platform length accommodates us both very well. We're also able to save our favorite runs under separate user profiles, which saves time starting up our workouts. Three things have kept me from rating this 5-star: (1) the fans broke almost immediately, and while it doesn't matter to us, I can imagine that being frustrating to someone counting on them; (2) the unit builds up SERIOUS static electricity, even though we've had it checked for proper grounding; (3) the audio connection sends our iPods into tailspins on occasion. For the price, I think this is a great product. Be sure to buy a thick rubber floor pad for below the unit.
